For 65 year old Linda Lease, day-to-day routines called for the typical agenda of getting dressed, working around the house, running errands and spending time with family. But, when Linda suddenly found herself unable to walk or care for herself, all of that changed.
Confused and quite weak, Linda was admitted to an area hospital where she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. After five days in the hospital, Linda regained some of her strength and chose to move to HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of York for the remainder of her recovery and rehabilitation.
When admitted, Linda was unable to walk or perform any personal care. She was unsure of her current condition, worrying what her outcome would be. Her therapy sessions were tiring, but she always felt better when done. Linda comments, "the physical and occupational therapists were very reassuring and I couldn't have made it home without their help."
She remained committed throughout her rehabilitation program, never giving up. With the encouragement of her therapy team, she returned home two months later, walking out of the hospital with only a cane. Looking back, Linda is thankful for HealthSouth York and how it benefited her rehabilitation. "HealthSouth York has a wonderful staff," Linda comments. She goes on to say that, "the team was very professional, pleasant and informative. "I felt like someone cared and really wanted me to get better."
